Does anyone know what "36 Chambers" mean?

The name of "36 Chambers" comes from the 1978 Chinese martial arts film "Shao Lin san shi liu fang" (The 36th Chambers of Shaolin).

now...if i remember...in the movie....each chamber had specific training and possibility of death.

the movie the got the title from is called the 36th chamber of shaolin. i guess its for these shaolin monks, and the chambers are like levels of skill you get. so they do some sort of martial arts and meditation and whatever else monks do to get to the 36th chamber.

From the movie series of 36th Chamber of the Shaolin. Da Mystery of Chessboxin' takes it's title from the kung fu flick Mystery of Chessboxing. And 8 Diagrams comes from the kung fu flick Eight Diagram Pole Fighter.
They're kinda into their ku fu movie references!
