Can you name a few rappers that have really 'dumbed down' their lyrics, to have more appeal, and sell more

That's true. LIke the one hit wonders started off with dumb lyrics. Many rappers dumbed down over time

i don't know about other artists but yeah Jay-Z on "Moment Of Clarity" said

Yeah and 50 definitely dumbed down his music...his first 2 albums "The Power of the dollar" and "Guess Who's Back" prove it...."50 cent is a symbol and a name ...it symbolizes me bringing CHANGE to the game"...miss that 50

Vanilla Ice... if he was ever credible, lost all credibility when he did "Ninja Rap" for the Teen-age-mutant-ninja-turtles movie. Definitely dumbed down for mass appeal. Perhaps all of his other works were weak, but this was certainly the nadir of his career.

Everyone since Tupac. He was the last true poet of rap who really had something to say. RIP.

stop looking to the mainstream, there are some very intelligent underground rappers going around at the moment

Well i'd agree about Jay & 50 ... Nas too dumbed down his lyrics until he beefed with Jay ,he was asked by his record to go more commercial like B.I.G , & from then Nas was only up ,he does not even care about what his new album The Ni**er sells ... my source is wikipedia & me ...simple is that Nas & underground MC's are real hip hop now , i add KRS & Rakim & Kan too with few to mention ... eminem is down forget about him
