Dr. Dre......?

Dr. dre has been on the rap/hip-hop scene for a while now, and has contributed to the genre from both sides: rapper and producer.

Dre has made some awesome songs and some real hott beats during his time. Do you feel that he has been a more powerful contributor as a rapper or producer?? Why??

yeah, he doesn't write most of his stuff, but i still love him, lol

i think equally later in hs career producer but early as rapper
i mean beign apart of that west coast scenece when it was hot is a big thing adn as a producer jsut beind around longjevity

producer........why? because he doesnt write 50% of his rhymes

Producer. The biggest contributions he has made for the culture have been through his work with NWA, Eminem, and on his own label. As a rapper, although The Chronic did have a huge impact on the game, I think the most significant thing that came out wasn't a brilliant rapper, but a style of production. As a rapper, Dre isn't anything special. As a producer, he's one of the best.

Producer. His beats are hotter than his rhymes.

In my opinion he's done more as a producer. He seemed to have produced whatever he has rapped on. And Death Row to me would have been anything if not for the hot tracks he has produced. Everyone needs to give the man his props. He is truly a pioneer.

Producer cuz he produced N.W.A ,Eminiem, Snoop and 50. These groups somewhat changed hip hop. Although "The Chronic" is a hip hop classic he has made more of an impact on music with his behind the scenes accomplishment.

Dre has done much more as a producer. While producing for NWA, he moved rap from a genre with heavy and overt policital tones, to one that was more accepted in mainstream America. He also pioneered the G-Funk sound, which became the sound of the West Coast for the better part of the 90's. In the late 1990's, and early in the 2000's, Dre put out both Eminem and 50 Cent, who rescued hip hop from the creative dark ages that it went through after the death's of 2Pac Shakur and Biggie Smalls

definitely as a producer... coz he has songs on his own album where he doesnt even rap.

however, he did make a lot of impact as a rapper in the early days when he started rapping when cube left NWA.... he helped keep NWA goin when people all thought they would break up already, and they made some of the hottest songs without cube.. (my favorite NWA album is efil4zaggin)

he makes a better producer than a rapper.

Hes Good At Both The Reason Why He Did Not Come Out With A New Album Was Because He Was Bussy Producing And Did Not Have Enough Time.

How can a top 5 (I say #1) producer of all time not be rembered as a producer?

As a rapper, Dre is pretty run of the mill. There are not many Dre verses that came across as particularly memorable. He is not bad, but not particularly great either. Add to that, as stated before, he does not write a large portion of his rhymes.

As a producer Dre is regarded as one of the greatest of all time. Dre produced albums that changed the way hip hop production was done. First with "The Chronic" and again with "2001". Not to mention the landmark work he did with NWA and the likes of Snoop, the D.O.C., Eminem, etc.

How many hip hop producers can boast AT LEAST 5 classic LPs under their belt?
