X-Factor - What is the POINT?

At the end of the X-Factor, Simon Cowell indicated he would like to continue to work with Same Difference, and hinted that a contract awaited them and Rhydian.

So what the hell is the point in asking the public to pick a winner? Sorry, Simon, but Rhydian and Same Difference LOST. Why have a competition with a prize, and then offer the losers a similar prize to the winner? Surely the point of the contest is the winner gets the prize and the losers do not!

Should X-Factor contestants who do not win be asked to agree to NOT sign any recording contracts for a minimum period?

PS this is not about the result or who you think ought to have won.

The point is the public have been hoodwinked. The public voted to give Leon a recording contract, so why should other contestants get one too?

Good point - it was totally crap this year and offering similar contracts to runners up shows that voting for a winner is a waste of time!!

I think they do have to wait before they are allowed to record a single. But your right the whole thing is a waste of time.

It's always been the same. It is a money-fest for Simon Cowell and the Irish bloke - can you tell that I gave up watching it after the first series?! Of course just like all money-grabbers, they are going to hedge their bets and sign up both the winner and the runner-ups!

no way should same difference get a contract i put them in the same league as the cheeky girls , the only one who deserves a contract is rhydian , he will be a far bigger star than any of them perhaps simon just said that to make them feel better lol

The point in X Factor is to generate money.

No one really cares about new 'talent' belting out tired old standards, and we all know that any fame these people have will be ephemeral. Simon will tell the masses to like someone else next month.

But since it gets a large audience, the advertising revenue is enormous, and the cash generated by getting morons to multiple vote for the acts is astronomical.

Quite simply, it's a cash cow - and you don't honestly think they'd jeopardise that by allowing the public vote to determine who stays on the show, do you? Besides, it takes them so long to count the money generated, when would they have time to count the votes?

Rhydian didn't lose because he is a far better singer than Leon and Leon only won because of unfair voting. If someone has talent and it is bought to the notice of the music industry through X factor why should they not get a contract? It is not a prize it is an end result of having talent, sadly something Leon just doesn't have so why is he being rewarded?

Why does anyone care - all 3 finalists were dreadful - in fact the whole thing is dreadful. They need to think of a new format.

Has anyone noticed how good the back up singers/musicians are?
