What are some songs that surpassed the fame of the bands that made them? |
Songs that many people know, but don't know the name of the band that made it? Unchained Melody Don't Fear the Reaper by the Blue Oyster Cult. When people listen to that song, they recognize it. But you must admit...that band name is somewhat hard to recall. Look up "one hit wonders" on yahoo search and you can find a nice, long list of other songs like this. "Get Together" (Come on people now, smile on your brother) is usually associated with a group called the Youngbloods because their version was used on a television commercial in the early 1970s, but it was originally done by a band called The Sunshine Company back in the late 1960s. The chant "Nah nah nah nah...goodbye" which is often used at sporting events, was taken from a song by a band named Steam, also back in the late 1960s. "Stuck in the Middle with you" by Steeler's Wheel All I Want - Toad The Wet Sprocket A couple one-hit wonders I bet or popular sporting event songs. "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang, "Play That Funky Music, White Boy" by Wild Cherry, "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions" by Queen, "Respect" by Aretha Franklin. Smoke On The Water "Smokin' in the Boy's Room" and "Mississippi Queen" come to mind. Agree w. many here. The "Friends" theme song, definitely. Rock and Roll part 2, (also known as The Hey Song)by Gary Glitter. Although of late he's been getting more press for his troubles in Vietnam. they're called one-hit wonders blinded by the light (manfred mann) "Bang on the Drum" by Todd Rundgren. They play it at sporting events, but no one knows it's Todd. Several, but it definitely annoys me when people don't know who sang the song. song 2 by blur how many of you can name the band that did "louie, louie"? Don't Worry, Be Happy - Bobby McFerrin. |
