yes this is going to be a series of Neil Young album face off questions
last time it was Re-Ac-Tor Vs Trans
This Time...Comes A Time Vs Ragged Glory
They are totally different albums ane beautiful soft and acoustic, the other as hard a slab of rock as Neil & Crazy Horse have ever served up
Which album do you like better?
Love Four Strong Winds from Comes A Time & Over And Over from Ragged Glory btw RAGGED GLORY all the f-ckin' way, boyo!!!!!!
It's no big secret -even amongst Neil's most diehard fans- that he tends to do his best work with Crazy Horse..."Ragged Glory" could possibly be their best collaboration...it's right up there alongside "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" in my books. Not a bad song on it.
"Comes A Time" is one of his lamer albums, right up there alongside "Harvest Moon", IMO. I think I've listened to the whole thing once, when I bought it. There's a couple good songs on it -"Lotta Love" and "Look Out For My Love"...and they just happen to be the ones Crazy Horse played on!!!!
Ever heard the bootleg "Chrome Dreams"? Neil pulled this album at the last minute...ultimately it was replaced by "American Stars And Bars" and "Comes A Time"! Sad, considering "Chrome Dreams", had it've been released, could very well be the best thing he'd ever done.
Anyway, here's possibly the ultimate Neil Young face off for you...two of them, actually:
"After The Gold Rush" VS "Harvest"
"Tonight's The Night" (my personal favourite, by the way) VS "Rust Never Sleeps"
...I'll leave you to do the honours... Great question. I really like Ragged Glory, especially Mansion On The Hill, Over and Over, and Days that Used to Be.
But, I like Comes A Time better as a whole album. It's hard for me to pick a favorite song on Comes a Time (ok, I'll pick three songs- Human Highway, Comes a Time, and Lotta Love). I listen to it more often than Ragged Glory. wow man no answers, I am going to have to go with "Comes A Time" I like Comes a Time better. Which is unusual, because I love the clashing Crazy Horseness of Ragged Glory. But Comes a Time has special meaning for me for personal reasons. |
