CUz my guitar skills sux im forced to play the bassist, is this the most uncool position in the band?

I love bass players, always have and always will. The chicks seem to dig them as well. I dont think there is any player in a band that is uncool. Keep working on your guitar skills and soon enough you will become a well rounded musician.

Good luck, and rock on!

Paul McCartney doesn't think so.

take some guitar lessons once you pick up the basics most people progress pretty fast so long as your dedicated

I dabble at drums and guitar but not in a band. I think playing bass would be fun too and don't see it as uncool in any way.

it's a scientific fact that women are attracted to base...(I always sit on the base bin :D)

(another fact is that i can't spell to save my life ;) i meant bass)

what do you care if it's cool, that's shallow. It is cooler than keyboards, and you are THE backbone, look at widespread panic...

No, not in my opinion. I prefer bassists...

I used to play the bass for fun... it is my favorite instrument.

Just be happy that you're in a band....

Ask Flea, Matt Freeman, Less Claypool and Victor Wooten.
Some people just can't play guitar, but can rip on bass. As long as you do more than just follow the guitar lines. Turn up your bass lead and show em what you've got.
Nothing prettier than a bass solo.

I don't think so, without a bassist the song sounds flat and hasn't got the.... bass

NNOOO! There are a lot of popular bassists! In fact, Pete Wenz of Fallout Boy is even more popular than the lead singer, Patrick Stump.

your band must suck if they're stuck with a guitar playing reject at bass--that's the heart and soul of the music man!

No way...

If youre good at what you do, you are not "UNCOOL" at all!

Without a bassist the band would fall on its back.. so dont think you are lower part of the group...

Is your band really important? You a garage band? Most likely never going to be famous? Don't like it quit and learn to play guitar better. You sound like you are probably like 14yrs old so its not important you are all in the band to get girls! Do you think the kids who watch you know any better? The friggin Jonas Brothers are famous, need I say more? Its about looks not talent.

bassit has his role in the band .donot think that any position in the band are uncool.but if u want a higher prospect and want the guitar try harder on ur guitar lessons.u will never go unawarded.

I think rock music lacks dimension without a bass or without drums...that's why it's called a "band"...it's a band of musicians and each contributes to the whole effect...it's kind of like the heart, the liver, the brain and the gonads all arguing about who's most important...
If you ever get a chance, you should check out a band called SplitLip Rayfield...their bass guy made his single string standup bass out of a gas tank off a station wagon and it's strung with weedwacker line. A $20 bass with a $200 electronic pickup on it. Very wild band...

Is Flea uncool? I think not it all depends on your entertaining skills and playing ability.

All the bassists that ppl mentioned here are great examples of cool.....Except for Pete Wentz. (HE sucks)

But pay NO attention to "I'm a waste" guy above me. Paul McCartney is possible the most influential lefty bassist of all time & Gene Simmons would be 1st in line to say Paul was an influence on him.

I'm a Waste has no clue what he's talking about.

ANYway. Chris Squire, Geddy Lee. Look them up...

No way, bass players are cool.. There's tons of stuff that is more uncool that bass...
keytar
keyboard
tambourine
back up singer

The list can go on and on... So be proud to be the bass player!

I don't think Lemmy, from Motorhead, would think so.

No, I think it's very cool! Thumbs up, man =]

r u kidding, bassiest always look the coolest, and if ur good people wll notice

I agree with the answer above, women are more attracted to bassits, why?
i really don't know

Are you kidding? Next to drums,I'd say it's one of the most powerful positions of any band. Listen to John Paul Jones,Geddy Lee,Chris Squire,(Yes),it can be as complex or as simple as you choose to make it. Be so thankful you're in a band at all. You can still pursue guitar studies in addition to your bass playing.....I played guitar but was on bass in band projects because there wasn't any bassists around. Now I play a 7 string because I wanted to have the low end available but still be on guitar. Bass players are mood setters-the power behind the throne. Go for it & best of luck to you.......

i myself play the bass and actually think its underated. with no bass the guitars would have nothing to lean on for backgrounds that are equally impressive
