Neil Young or Eric Clapton?

Who do you prefer?

neil young, he sings from his soul, and sings like a man who has lived alot, clapton is talented but i dont think he feels his music like neil does

Clapton. It's cause I like The Yardbirds.

Neil Young

Eric Clapton - Tears in heaven is so beautiful

Neil Young!

Slowhand, no question.

Clapton, better singer, WAY better guitar player ,(I think Neil Young is so overated on the guitar!)
Neil Young is a better lyricist

Eric Clapton. I mean, I like CSN&(Y), but look at how many songs Clapton had written:

1) Tears in Heaven
2) I Shot the Sherriff
3) Wonderful Tonight
4) Layla
5) Lay Down Sally

Also, because I love the "Yardbirds" (with Clapton in it) and also Cream.

I love both, but if I had to pick it would be Clapton

Ha -- easy one -- Neil Young has a huge chunk of my life and wallet dedicated to him.

Allow me to quote from the introduction to "Shakey: Neil Young's Biography" by Jimmy MacDonough:

"I'll take seventeen hours of Neil Young and Crazy Horse at their absolute worst over the entire solo catalogues of Eric Clapton or Sting...at least Shakey is rarely ever boring."

I think that quote pretty much nails it.

Clapton's great, but Neil Young is still making good, relevant music these days. EC's best days and greatest songs are at least thirty -if not fourty- years behind him. It may sound terrible but Eric Clapton lost his edge for me a) when he gave up drugs (Aerosmith is the only other example I can think of of this happening) and b) when he switched from being a guitar player who sings to a singer who happens to play guitar. I saw Slowhand live earlier this year and he barely played any lead at all...he had some whippersnapper doing most of the lead work. Very disappointing...I'd wanted to see him live for years.

(Oh, by the way, Johnathan...Eric Clapton didn't write "I Shot The Sheriff"...a Jamaican chap by the name of ROBERT NESTA MARLEY did...have you heard of him????? Having said that...they talk about Led Zeppelin ripping off black blues musicians and old slave/work songs...I puke everytime I think of Clapton doing "Swing Low Sweet Chariot"...what the f-ck does a white kid from London know about being whipped by a slavemaster in the middle of a bleedin' cottonfield?! If I were black I'd take EC's cover of that old work song as an even bigger insult than his drunken endorsement of British Right Wing white supremacist Enoch Powell!!!)

Neil Young his songs had such an impact on me. he's not stuck in just one genre he's expiermented with lots. Cortez the Killer and Cowgirl in the Sand are two of my favorite's. he's got his own style of playing acoustic guitar with the hammer ons and stuff. i don't mind clapton but he's to much like the others, stuck in a blues oriented rock which i find boring.

I love them both but Neil is definitely my favorite (one of my all-time favs period). I can't of anybody who has been able to continue writing great songs in many different styles for as long as he has.

I prefer Clapton for his style and creativity. I like Neil Young with Crosby Stills and Nash.

Eric Clapton has more talent on guitar, his voice is stronger and he has a lot of writing talent. I think Clapton is one of the best LIVING guitarist. I have to admit Neil Young is great, I saw him in concert and he did a great show, I have never had the chance to see Clapton

i don't think anyone could honestly say one has more talent than the other, but i believe Neil has made much more of an impact in music. he's been more influential to more bands, and his music covers many genres. he's also written some very powerful and meaningful songs.

clapton. larger body of work. legend who has worked with legends. this is being said by a csn & y fan.

Neil Young hands down.
