Adults, what is your reaction when a 13-19 year-old tells you they love the bands you grew up listening to ?

for example, if an adolescent tells you he/she really enjoys listening to Led Zeppelin, Pink FLoyd, the Doors, ...

dont be stuck up about it, a younger generation is discovering good music

My step son argued with me that some of the new bands were not old bands. I guess he didn't want to believe we could have liked the same music.

VICTORY!!!

But silently and to myself. If they know that I liked those bands first then it's no longer their idea and they'll probably start listening to bands with names like "Zombie Virgin Slayers and the Pack of Heathen Criminals"

i think they have good taste in music

i'm 18 and my entire middle/elementary/high school was dedicated to bruce springsteen and tom petty. Or david bowie, morrissey, elvis... i've been the weird kid ever since. i would wear like 4 different bruce shirts, and the kids were evil about it.. i like new music (the indie stuff) but nothing compares any more.
my parents think it is absolutely wonderful that some kids keep rockin and rollin

My mom told me that it's like living in a time capsule, and she's glad I have good taste in music. :)

I think that's great. We enjoyed some really good music in my youthful days. Good for them!!

I think it is great - makes me think they have good taste in music. To be honest you cant beat the music from the 70's & 80's - it is way better than some of the stuff they call music these days!!

...its great...its proof that some music is timeless and that some young people actually listen to the material and dont immediately dismiss a song or a band just because its from another time...it does drive me nuts sometimes though when an old song is used in a movie and people think that its something new and the latest trend...

I think they have good taste!

ok, i know im not really technically an adult, but here is my response. im 20 and love clasic rock, van halen being my favorite. i got into an argument with my uncle, whos in his 40s about which band john fogarty sang for, and i proved him wrong.

It gives me a new faith in humanity.

Well I'm not an adult (I'm a teen) and as a little kid all I can remember listening to was classic rock. In fact while yes I've gotten into the new stuff (metal of course) I still rock out to the classics. Alot of adults seem surprised or just shrug it off. They just all seem surprised when I've on my Rush All the Worlds a Stage shirt on.

I think it's cool.

Funny story: about 8 or 10 years ago, my friends and I went to see Poison. The two guys in front of us, who were no older than 21, said to each other "Ahhh. This brings back such memories." I was like, "Of WHAT? KINDERGARTEN? Because that's how old you were when this stuff was popular the first time!"

Fine with me.

I think wow that's nice, they like what I like.
