Is the Epipgine SG G-400's body made of wood? And how is the grain effect produced?

I was wondering this because the current cheap guitar i have, a yamaha, is not wood. Its some sort of shiny material.

They are usually made of solid mahogany. The grain effect is just simply the grain of the wood.
