"Nu" Metal?

Can someone please explain to me what exactly nu metal is? Why do Slipknot and linkin park both fall in this category?

"Nu metal is mainstream controlled corporated metal"

Someone created a guide for new metal that I think you should read here http://www.angelfire.com/80s/hairhole/nu...

Nu metal is refered to as "new metal" it has no connection to true metal though that is underground

*Agreed with Steven "nu metal" is also known as "emo" look up their lyrics and compare nu metal lyrics to underground death metal or underground black metal lyrics. You will see a difference. Also nu metal works on image instead of the actual music mostly.

creeper: just answered your question. "nu-metal" is marketing terms for music controlled by music labels and corporations.

IMHO "nu-metal" is same horrible as EMO.

can't argue about that. "nu-metal" and "emo" **** since both concerns more about image than about quality of music and lyrics.

LMAO creeper that's good site...i'm just thinking how long those bands will last: like korn, limp bizkit, or any other "nu-metals:" trends, untill music corporastion will suck $$$ from them and throw them on garbage.

"Nu metal music emphasizes mood, rhythm, and texture over melody and complex instrumentation. "
Taken form wikipedia. If a metal is control by the corporate, doesn't make it nu-metal, but nu metal bands are usually like that

Nu metal is not emo, but is as horrible as the fake "emo" bands today.

Nu metal is a term to define a genre of metal which appeared in the late 90's that combined heavy metal with hip-hop on a mainstream level. The idea was attempted before in the late 80s by Aerosmith and Run DMC with "Walk This Way" and Anthrax and Public Enemy with "Bring the Noise." The idea was too far ahead of its time unfortunately. Bands emerged such as Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park to popularize the genre. Mudvayne and Slipknot also fall into this category but the majority of these bands have changed their sound (some don't exist) due to the fact that Nu Metal was merely a fad.
