Montrose
Eloy
Babe Ruth
Uriah Heep
Budgie
Atomic Rooster
Amon Duul II
Colosseum II
Zephyr
Ever hear of them? Wishbone Ash was great. Twin lead classic guitar rock! I guess it really depends on you age, or how broad ones musical tastes/knowledge is. Personally, I wouldn't call any of those bands obscure. In fact as far as my collection is concerned, they're mainstream. In most cases I think they've been forgotten, except by those of us old enough to remember.
Back in the early 70's they were very well known. It seems these days the only 70's bands that younger people are familiar with are Zeppelin, Sabbath, Pink Floyd, BOC, Deep Purple etc. No doubt due to FM radio, and movies like Dazed and Confused.
Back in the late 60's, early 70's I had many friends who were very mainstream; Pink Floyd, Mountain, Mott the Hoople, Zeppelin, etc. But I grew tired of that stuff very quick, and sought out other bands, like Gravy Train, May Blitz, Samurai, Grobschnitt, Greatest Show on Earth, Fuzzy Duck, Flow, Granicus, Flied Egg, and thousands more (literally).
Many other great forgotten bands that should also be on your list would be;
Babe Ruth
Wild Turkey
Captain Beyond
Camel
Zephyr
Groundhogs
Poobah
Hookfoot
Barclay James Harvest
Bedlam
Lucifers Friend
Tin House
Troyka
Neon Rose
Blues Creation
Jodo
Peace and Quiet
Dogfeet
Caine
Capability Brown
Atomic Rooster
Charlee
Bloodrock
To name just a few!
Check out the Cactus Live and Unleashed 70-72 double disc set. I see it all over the web at various blogs available for free download. Cactus also reunited with Jimmy Kunes replacing Rusty Day(RIP) on vocals. They released an album in 2006 titled 'Cactus V':

You must have gone thru my record collection...I truly do remember those bands...Wishbone Ash was the first band I saw using twin lead guitar players...By the way , I saw them at the Memorial Auditorium in Shreveport, La. in about 1972. |
