Oh, By the Way is a limited-edition 14-album, 16xCD box set containing the entirety of Pink Floyd's studio album discography, immaculately repackaged as miniature LPs with gatefold covers and the original inner sleeves, stickers and posters where applicable. Also included are a special new poster designed by longtime Floyd-affiliated cover art designer Storm Thorgerson commemorating the 40th anniversary of Pink Floyd's first LP The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and a couple of "Pink Floyd coasters" which are included as collectors' items.

Downside is: There is no rarities disc, no concert material (aside from the live half of Ummagumma), no previously unreleased work, no interviews, no DVDs, no 5.1 audio, no historical liner notes and-- most significantly-- no remasters save the one you can already get on the recently-released standalone 40th Anniversary Edition of Piper. Assuming you're like a lot of people and already own the latest, cleanest retail-release pressings of every Pink Floyd record you'd ever want, Oh, By the Way will serve no purpose outside of a fan-pleasing visual novelty; it practically exists to be looked at instead of listened to. Well, except for More, Obscured by Clouds, Saucerful of Secrets, and a few David Gilmour led discs, I have all of their officially produced albums. I ain't droppin' $250 for a poster, coasters, and adorable little record style CD cases! You've gotta be crazy and have a real need for that silly stuff!
(Haha, Floyd pun :P) No way too expensive I'd rather consume a pound of my own feces than pay them for this product. No rarites disc, no unreleased material... just when you think they're starting to get it right releasing the deluxe edition of Piper at the Gates of Dawn, it's more product. The "Shine On" Box Set was bad enough, but at least it game us the singles disc. This doesn't even include "Dance Favorites" or "Relics" or "Works", and while it includes two of the band's film soundtrack LPs it doesn't include "Zabriskie Point", either!!! |
