What is the best "Rock" band with an African American musician?

Not that race matters to music, but It seems generic that if you are an African American you must like Hip Hop, Soul, R n B, Rap, or any of the other traditionally Black music genre. It seems, for whatever reason, that African American's aren't often shown as being in Rock bands. Yet, some of the greatest, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz, Rage Against the Machine, etc. are African Americans. So I wanted to know who everyone's favorite Rock band is that features an African American artist. My personal current favorite bands all feature an African American singer: Hed P.E., Nonpoint, and Sevendust.

I forgot to mention my other favorite that inspired me to ask this question, A Band Called Pain. All four musicians are African American and at least two of them dabbled as rap artists.

The Dead Kennedys - with D.H. Peligro as their drummer-- an awesome drummer!

The Mars Volta - with Isaiah Ikey Owens on keyboards, who had also performed as a member of Sublime, Reel Big Fish, and the Long Beach Dub Allstars.

Living Colour, the group is now a classic band, but most certainly one of the most overlooked. And Vernon Reid is honestly one of the best guitarists out there - his solo in "Cult of Personality" still gives me goosebumps, and makes my hair stand on end.

Bad Brains has also been mentioned--doesn't hurt to mention them another time :)

hendrix of course and thin lizzy

bloc party

but he's not american though

Killswitch Engage!!!

All of those that you mentioned are great!

one you didn't mention, doobie brothers (both then & now)

King's X from Houston, Texas
And while i didn't listen to them much, Living Colour was decent as far as i can remember

By far my favorite is Mary Cutrufello!

i know some bands, kurbgrinder, living colour, sevendust

SEVENDUST is AWESOME!!!!! lejohn the lead singer is black....

-chai

edit....wtf!?! hed pe has a black singer...didnt kno that....

Bad Brains and Suicidal Tendencies

King's X and Bad Brains are great choices already named but the drummer for Ween is African-American and an absolute bada** at what he does. The whole band is extremely talented as well so that's my choice.

Prince pretty much owns too.

King's X and living colour r good older bands while killswitch engage and sevendust r real good newer ones

Ben Harper
Fishbone
Fighting Gravity

Eh...TV on the Radio...

Okay, I'll leave, now.

Sevendust
Killswitch Engage
Sepultura
God Forbid
Candiria
Twelve Tribes

the Jimi Hendrix Experience is like the most obvious answer.. & so is Thin Lizzy.

But I choose the Dead Kennedys, closely followed by Bad Brains.

Dave Matthew's Band

what about an all black band like living colour
