What do your parents think of the music you listen to?

My mom absolutely hates the music I listen to.
I listen to screamo/hardcore/deathcore and she listens to, well, the hardest thing she listens to is Nickelback.

So, what do you listen to and what do your parents think of it?

they freakin hate it but i dont care

they like it

I listen to the Beatles and my parents listen to 40's music.

they love it

When I was listening to Metallica my mother said,"Are you letting the devil take over." What do your parents say?

I think we listen to the same music. You will both grow out of it (you and the 'rents)

high five i just don't play the most hardcore **** i have too loud she gets ANNOYED :D

When I was a teen I listened to the same music you say you do, and my parents hated it, blamed it for my rebellious behavior and threw away all my cds......My parents do not listen to any rock or anything, country sometimes but rarely...they mostly listen to gospel...

I listen to hard rock and R&B. My parents don't care for it, but they'll still listen to it if I force them.

I listen to electronica, nerd rock and pop. My parents actually don't like any of these, for whatever reason. They only listen to Christian music, which I don't especially like.

I share the same taste of music with my parents...

I like pretty much anything, so my mom can tolerate most of what i listen to. She did threaten to take my music away when i started dressing gothic in high school though lol. guess she thought it was a "bad influence".

haha.
my mom listens to nickleback too.
it makes me want to cry.

But I listen to a lot of indie and screamo and just whatever sounds good.
She actually really likes a lot of my favorite bands and is chill about listening to them.
Then again, since I got my license when I was 16, we've rarely been in a situation that required us to listen to music together.

And as for my dad...haha who knows what he's into.
His favorite band is Rush. And thats no problem for me.

death metal/black
hardcore
thrash/metal/punk
rap
BOB MARLEY

my parents say "well done, son !"

Well my parents and I share the same interest in southern rock and country. Occasionally I listen to R&B and my dad thinks I am crazy, but i just don't listen to it when he is around. I respect his ears and don't make him listen to if he doesn't like it.

They hated it at first but now its numb to them, so they tolerate it I guess .......

I listen to Hardcore/Deathcore/Metalcore.

My parents have called it the following:

industrial noise
people dying
devil music(even though more than half of it is christian)
a couple of third graders fighting(I was listening to
The Number 12 Looks Like You, LOL)

My Mom really knew her stuff as far as popular music was concerned and I tried to be the same way when my kids were growing up. Probably why I still listen to a lot of stuff that is popular today at my age. It is not so much what kids listen to, it is the decibel they listen to it at! :o). Hearing aids will be REAL popular when your generation gets to be my age. It's a fact!

Your parents are probably never going to like the music you like until you get older, and can appreciate all types of music rather than just identifying with one style/genre of music....and thats ok.

My parents are hilarious and have always listened to whatever my sister and I were into; from alternative, to country, to pop to hip hop. And they just sing along and be stupid. As a kid it was annoying and embarrassing...now its pure entertainment!!!

I listen to MCR + Linkin Park, parents don't approve, but screw them!

i'm a bit of a rock chick but i also love my indie, my mum listens 2 old stuff and classics, but not she actually gettin into indie! it is so refreshin 2 listen 2 music that we both enjoy in the car

My mom actually likes some of it.

I listen to heavy metal.

Ya know what my dad likes some of it actually so it's pretty cool

well i listen 2 soul music and sometimes rock, pop and jazz.actually my parents dont care 'bout what i listen 2

I love my parents music, My parent on the other hand aren't so open minded with my music, I think it has something to do with the memories attached to the music they like and can't relate the newer and different music

Common sense is against foolishness like that as well. Your mother simply would like to hear herself think. Noise is noise! When you get your mom's age, you will be screaming at your children to turn down the music!

i listen to R&B, pop, rock n little bit of everything else.. my parents dont really mind what i listen to as long as i dont turn the music loud or keep humming the tune all the time.. when i do that, my parents start to freak a little..

We basically listen to the same thing. We all listen to WIBI, a Christian station. The only music my mom doesn't like of mine is a couple of the harder songs on a few my cds, like "Live God Loud," from my 38 Acres cd.

my parents dont care what i listen to. i listen to country. they hate country, but they said they dont care. my parents listen to rock stuff.

My mom and I actually point out things to eachother and with a pretty decent batting average. I gave her the Shins, Iron and Wine, Doug Martsch and Stephen Malkmus (to name just a couple) my mom gave me Elvis Costello, Outcast, Aimee Mann and Warren Zevon. Obviously she doesn't like everything I'm into (stuff like Karp, Rocket From the Crypt, Kool Keith, etc.) and she makes fun of me for things and vice versa, but we definitely have a middle ground.

If I was your parents I would hate it too. Me and my parents pretty much listen to the same thing. Oh well
