What artist do you think should write a book about their life?

I've heard rumors going around about Britney writing one...and I must admit I would read it. She certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but saying I wouldn't read her book is like saying I won't stare at the car accident I'm driving by.

Anyway...of all the artists who don't have books written about them yet, whose life story would you be most interested in reading? And is there an existing book about an artist that you've read that you would recommend?

Fonzie - who knows if she can put the bottle down and stay out of court long enough to even write a book? :)

you know i mostly listen to rock/metal

but i think prince would have a interesting book..i would definately read it..he is a musical genious in my opinion. he played (every instrument) and wrote/produced all his early songs..and dated some interesting women

Brittany Spears

Leonard Cohen.

the Dirt by Motley Crue is good, even if it is unbelievable at some times. I would read books written by Trent Reznor, Henry Rollins, Mike Ness, Axl Rose and Ozzy.

ummm... gerard way of mcr

Britney hasn't *lived* long enough to even think of doing a damn auto bio' book...wow.

I wouldn't read anything she put out, so I'd be the equivalent of That One Guy who ignores the accident, I guess...

My immediate choices have already done books. Neil Peart & there was one Paul McCartney had help w/ called Many Years From Now.

ooo good question!! i wanna read a book about Marilyn Manson. that goes back to the car accident thing you were talkin about. i want it to be an autobiography though, cuz i don't think it would be as fu*ked up if anyone else wrote it for him!

I wouldn't consider Britney and artist.

I really enjoyed Bob Dylan's Chronicles, Volume 1, which is only the first part of a 3 volume memoir

It was mind-blowing. His writing is Pulitzer Prize-worthy.

edit: I would like to see maybe Mike Patton write about his life somewhere down the line.

*yeah, pictures would be nice, huh? ;-P

**Jonz4: I'm glad you mentioned the Leonard Cohen biography, now that one's next on my list :)

John Feldmann of Goldfinger (I don't know, maybe he has)

I've been thinking I should write a tell all. I can already see them flying off the shelves... (insert bad "into what?" joke)

I'm with Fonzie, I would love to check out a McCartney autobiography. Ian MacKaye would be another dude who's autobiography I'd love to read. I saw him do a storytelling Q&A sort of a thing and it was incredibly interesting.

You're too nice Sookie. I think there would be a lot of "I slept pretty well that night, and then I went to work. I find that the first 15 minutes of the movie Seven set the perfect tone for drifting off to sleep. It was an ok day at work, but I was excited at the prospects of not being at work anymore as the clock moved forward. The phone rang. It was a client. They said some stuff. I thought to myself "man, talking taxes is not very exciting." Then I got off of work. I was feeling hungry. A feeling I often had (approximately three times a day) in those days. Food tasted good. It wasn't great, but it was enjoyable enough to leave me feeling satisfied. Another day, another sandwich."

I regret in advance how predictable this answer will sound, but a Rob Zombie book would have some amazing stories. The one chapter on how he managed to be with Sheri Moon and Sean Yseult at around the same time would be worth the purchase price alone. Hmmm, can't imagine how a little something like that led to the breakup of White Zombie.

As far as an existing book, I read Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis. That's my recommendation.

Oh, I agree. You go into some juicy details on that, we're talking New York Times Best Seller list. Any story based around love triangles in bands is must read.

The Mike Patton Drool-athon is back in high gear, operators standing by for your donations. :)

Scott Wieland

I read a rather interesting book by Linda Carroll, who is Courtney Love's mother. Linda goes into great detail about her childhood, what it was like raising Courtney, etc... I don't even like Courtney Love, but I couldn't put that book down.

I haven't read that Manson book either that was mentioned above (Long Hard Road Out of Hell), but I'd like to. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Some of us are still waiting for the long promised Stevie Nicks autobiography.
Apparently there was a very brief one nearly 20 years ago, but it's impossible to find, and so much more has happened since then.

I suppose it would be interesting to have one about Blackmore's Night {Candice and Ritchie}, but they've only been going for 10 years ~ I'm sure there's more to come!

I have a copy of the David Essex biography, I just haven't got around to reading it yet. I'm interested because of his Romany heritage ~ he's head of the Gypsy Council.

np: 'The Days of Pearly Spencer' ~ David McWilliams

I'd like to read about Lemmy from Motorhead...and his Wendy O days...

I think Tim Armstrong of Rancid could put out a good book. You would get some excellent insight into an interesting life. Starting out in the bay area, being in Operation Ivy, becoming homeless right after, then starting Rancid as an effort to get off the streets, and growing into what he is now.
One that has been written, is Punk Rock Dad by Jim Lindberg of Pennywise. It's about trying to front an anti-establishment punk band while being a good father of multiple girls and a responsible husband.

Elliot Smith - he had something to say...I would have listened...:-(

Still living - Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips - would be a humorous read.

I recently read an article about Craig Owens of Chiodos and I would have to say that I would absolutely LOVE to read a book about him, he's been through so much I just think it would be an amazing autobiography.

SJG - You let me know who I have to kill to get that book published. A Lemmy tell-all would f*cking rule.

I'll also second 80s Man's request for a Prince-ography.

I'll also add that I am having little or no individual thoughts today. Baaa-baaaaaa.

NP: "If Anyone Falls" - Stevie Nicks

Kurt Cobain

Man would I love to read the story of his life in his own words.

Also, Sid Vicious.
Master at applying the whole live fast die young thing.

Well, I'll second Mach and the Patton book, with pictures..drool...

I was going to say Trent Reznor, but the 90's would probably lead me to drinking, and the end would be about George Bush sucking, so.. I'll not cast my vote for that one.

Ozzy would probably interesting... you know if he could remember anything...

Phil Anselmo... again with pictures. ;)

The Manson book is a WONDERFUL read. Even if you are not a fan, it is funny and well written. Even though I have an undying hate for Neil Strauss.

I think Billy Corgan would have some interesting stories...between growing up in Chicago, what his songs were about, recording those great albums, and the other artists that he was friends with or toured with.

I'd also like to see a Trent Reznor auto-bio, I'm sure he'd have lots of interesting stories given the people that are and have been in his life. We could hear how he went from opening for Guns N Roses, to producing Manson's albums, to body building. LOL.

I would like to second Rckets nomination for a Rob Zombie auto-bio, he's so secretive about his personal life and has never been involved in any public scandals or feuds, so I'd like to hear more about him.

Marilyn Manson's auto-bio is one of the most addictive books I've ever read, talk about a page turner. I'd like to see him write a follow-up book, because so much has happened since the "Antichrist Superstar" tour.

Patton, if he wrote it, oh man. honestly he probably has some of the craziest, sickest stories. it would be pretty nasty but hilarious

Freddie Mercury.
...if he hadn't died. *tear*

So...in that case, if we have to choose somebody living,
I choose Brian May, lead guitarist of Queen.
He'd tell us all about Freddie, Roger and John,
he could tell us little known facts,
he's funny,
nice,
and wouldn't do it as a sell-out type of thing,
it'd be more of a for-the-fans type of thing,
because he's always thinking of the fans,
and he's so smart!
It'd definitely be interesting and fantastic!
=]

I think he's written one, but since I'm not sure I'll say Willie Nelson. To me he's on the top of the "been there, done that" heap and has lead an intriguing life.

Yes, we're in R & P but Willie transcends all.
