What is the crooked claw like hand symbol mean in metal music?

Normally you see the "pig ear" hand symbol at metal concerts and such. Lately I've been noticing a new hand symbol in various videos spanning from early 90's metal to today. It looks like a hand with fingers clawed out and the wrist is bent over to make the hand appear like a stiff claw or a tree. Does anyone know what this hand symbol means and its origin?

LOL! The symbol you referred to as the "pig ear" is typically called devil horns. It is rumored to have been started by Dio, who said it was a symbol I believe his grandmother used to keep the evil eye away. While this may not have been the true beginning of throwing the horns, I love Dio so I'll believe it!
I know the symbol you are speaking of, and unfortunately I don't know what it truly stands for. I've seen it a lot over the last probably two or three years, mainly at black metal shows. To me, it's always looked as if they were holding a heart in their hands and holding it to the sky or something. I know.... pretty morbid; these are black metal shows though.

Wish I could be of more help! I'll have to check back here and see what the truly enlightened ones say =)

Picture reference?

"pig ear?" PIG EAR?!? its fricken HORNS!

I haven't noticed whatever you're talking about.
