Why can't people admit that the Beatles were overrated?

I agree...an okay pop/rock band with some cool stuff...but not rock gurus...and not the most talented kids on the block in their day, either...but very well promoted, and that's the trick to success...then and now

By today's standards, they are. In their context and time, they were the biggest deal going.

I think Nirvana is overrated not the Beatles. They have some amazing music that still stands today.

I may not be qualified to judge how well their music holds up to today's music but they certainly played an important role in the history of music.

probably because they werent. not many of todays groups will be remembered 1 year from now never mind 40 years. they were years ahead of their time.

According to WHOM? The Beatles were a phenomenon. I was 13 when they first came to America, grew up with their music, and knew what went before & came since. Their influence reverberated throughout music. Anyone who doesn't realize that is either tone-deaf, or just too young to understand the reality of the music scene of that time - or since.

The Beatles were pioneers in rock and roll.
They weren't and are not overrated.
A lot of their songs are classics and are still being used in TV, Movies, and commercials today.

For a time and a place, the 60's were meant for the Beatles.

I admit it, but people that grew up with them hate to admit that they are over rated. I don't like their music personally.

Everyone can have their own opinion about what "overrated" means but the reality is that the Beatles were not only the most influencial contributors to changes in music and the recording industry but also to society, in general. Anyone who can't see the effect the Bealtes had on the world in the 60's and the lingering effects of their influence today are simply delusional. Ask succesful musicians from KISS to Led Zepplin, from Elvis Costello to Red Hot Chilli Peppers and I figure a guess that 9 out of 10 "real" musicians" would say that they were influenced by them in some way. I, being one of them.

Just because you think roy orbison is cooler lol i need to laugh. The beatles are cool, wrote great songs and where pioneers of the 60's.
