You can take almost every band that has come onto the scene in the genres of Rock and Metal since 1995. Add them all together and what is the aggreate result?
The biggest pile of worthless, talentless, unlistenable junk on Planet Earth
I have never seen such hideousness, and before You leap I've heard all of it.
I don't judge without hearing. But it's a barren arid desert out there musically
What do You think caused this? Same with modern music the same three or four chord, endlessly recycled 鈫?What do YOU think caused this?鈫?br>
Let's play "The Musical Renaissance Theory"
Select a period Darth: (Say 64 through 79?)
Something was in the water...no different from the period that took place in Italy centuries ago. Artists have painted since, but there was only one time when it all came together, when art ruled.
64 through 79....The stars aligned for a few years, and music ruled in a period like no other.
Can those days return, or did we experience a Renaissance?
ooooweeeeeeoooo
楼 I'm just trying to figure out why people listen to rap. Same beats and same topic every damn song. Because Hip-Hop is dominating the music industry right now. Even a lot of rock bands (and a country singer) have made music with different rappers. Metal became to commercial and became what it was originally against. Although I will say Tool Kicks @zz. I think there are still some good acts out there. I like Amon Amarth. It's not like tHeY SaVEd mY LyFe or anything, but they are good.

***Fair enough. I let you know if I find any more. But Amon is not something you like right away. It grows on you though. Cool barbarian/viking imagery. MCR and Fallout Boy The main problem started with hair metal. Every record label wanted to get a band that sounded like Bon Jovi or Poison and then the labels looked for the next Guns n' Roses. So that's how you end up with bands like Cinderella, Jetboy, Winger, LA Guns, etc etc. Once the grunge thing hits, the labels are now looking for the next Nirvana/Pearl Jam/Soundgarden. Cobain offs himself, the grunge scene dies, so enter the plagues of the music world: Limp Bizkit and Korn. High school boys and girls think they're cool, sales go up, now the labels are looking for clones of those two bands. Same thing with Creed (which is how we ended up with Nickelback).
The major labels aren't interested in signing bands that are all too original. They look for the one band that catches commercial success and the others scramble to sign the bandwagonners.
Try labels like Century Media, Nuclear Blast, Metal Blade and the End Records for some quality original stuff. Amon Amarth are a great band and I don't normally like that style of singing (plus I'm Scandinavian so the "songs about vikings" thing appeals to me). Some other great bands to consider with clean vocals are: Nevermore, Kamelot, Iced Earth, Primal Fear (sounds a lot like "Screaming for Vengeance" era Priest), Communic and Firewind. If you like operatic female vocals, try Nightwish and Epica. Lullacry has female vocals, are pretty heavy but poppy at the same time. My favorite group (other than Nevermore), the Gathering, have great female vocals and it's kind of trippy/ethereal.
There is really good metal music out there, you're just not going to find people at FYE recommending it to you. Because in 1971, the first "Rock" song topped the Billboard "Pop" charts; and in 1995 the fist "Hip-Hop" song was No. 1 in the "Pop" charts.
- What does this mean? -- That you are getting OLD.
These things are cyclical, however. For most of the 80s I would argue that Rock was not as good as the 70s, but then reemerged in 87 and with help from the Alternative music wave of late-80s-91, revived and put heavy metal/rock - back on top. This may (or may not) reoccur -- which is why you MUST where your ROCK PATRONAGE on your sleeve, even if your music is not seen to be "as good as it was."
- Also - The whole damn issue of what's good and what's bad is reletive to the individual; IMHO
- Actually, I have no idea what I'm talking about... :-)) I don't know why it's happened, Darth, but I know I'm not happy about it.
I think I can easily say that only 5% of the Rock music I have is post 1995. And that's almost all by Classic Rock bands {Jethro Tull, Fleetwood Mac}. There are a few by Thunder, Type O Negative, Tori Amos {is she Rock?}, but even they all originated before 95.
Oohhh! Rainbow ~ 'Stranger In Us All' was released in 95!
In fact, the only 'new' {post 95} Rock band I seem to have is Blackmore's Night! And it could be argued that they are only so brilliant because Ritchie is an 'old school' guitarist, who can actually compose as well as play.
All I can say is, thank heavens there is such a wealth of good music from before this time for us to listen to, otherwise things could be really dire. I blame American Idol!!!!!...Kisses ;) |
