The names of bands like The Pretenders , Whitesnake , and Guns 'N' Roses are still used even though they exist with only one member most of the time. Is this a good idea ? Who do you feel is right in doing this and why ? I don't think it's a good idea at all, particularly when the missing members played such a big role in the music.
There are some bands that seem like the lead singer is a solo artist and the rest are just his or her backing band, then there are bands that pull together, work together and produce amazing music /together/. With a band like Guns N' Roses [my favourite band] you /feel/ the difference when listening to the new stuff. Every ex-member had his own individuality that he put into the music that made it what it was. For them all to leave and for Axl to recruit a bunch of low grade musicians and call them Guns N' Roses is a disgrace, it feels and sounds different and not paricularly great - it's not the same, it's a whole new band and should be given a new name instead of dragging the name of GNR through the mud.
One the other hand, if a band's members are not of significant importance, then replacing all but one member is not a big issue to me. One of my favourite bands is a gothic rock band called Sisters of Mercy and at the moment, the only original member is the lead singer - but I still love them. Andrew [the lead singer] was always central [for me, anyway] - so for the others to be replaced is OK to me.
I hope that all made sense, hehe. I know tht the current Guns N Roses isn't the real GNR, Slash was such a great guitarist with them, but Axl was a d-bag and drove everyone away. GNR should be disbanded, as its a disgrace for them to still be together. i don't particularly agree with it... it's not g'n'r without slash (and axl has become kinda creepy, too...)... no, i don't think it's right. It's a horrible idea, really. In fact, Axl ruined his career, once he dumped the original band. How much do you actually hear about GNR? Only when a 'release date' is announced for Chinese Democracy, and when Axl does something stupid. Also, Axl actually has a band, just one that changes all the time.
It's also one that is nowhere near as good as the original GNR. They might as well call it Guns, or Roses, but not Guns N' Roses. This is a difficult question, there is, to Me, a diffrent answer for every band
Axl's Guns & Roses in NOT Guns & Roses
Whitesnake to Me is
David Coverdale-Vocals
Mickey Moody-Guitar
Bernie Marsden-Guitar
Neil Murray-Bass
Ian Paice-Drums
Jon Lord-Keyboards
And always will be, Coverdale just screws with the band too much, even the John Sykes/Cozy Powell version was fine.
but once they got Vai in that mammer jammer...that was all she wrote
I guess in the end, no, it's not alright with Me |
