Why was I dissed 4 calling a welsh band" english"?

I didnt know they were welsh but got put firmly in place for calling them english do the brits and welsh not get on?

First of all English and Welsh people are BOTH British ! Britain comprises England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland so asking if the Brits and Welsh don't get on doesn't make sense, I think you mean 'do the English and Welsh not get on?'.

Well, like most countries next to each other there is plenty of rivalry and banter, particularly when it comes to sport, but mostly we do get on, we aren't all that different really !

Okay you need to be familiar with some nations.

Great Britain = England + Wales + Scotland

United Kingdom = the above + Northern Ireland.

You will see the UK is FOUR countries, 3 of them make up Great Britain (the bigger island of the British Isles)

You will also notice the Welsh ARE British, though not English.

they are different countries you see. i am guessing you are american? to them it is like an american being called canadian kind of. it is the same with ireland and northern ireland

No because we are English and the Welsh are Welsh. Same as the Scots are Scots. Bit like someone calling an American, Canadian or vice versa.

The Welsh are 'brits'. But if you mean British, you should say so. Otherwise you might unintentionally do something insulting, such as calling someone Scottish.

Well i am English but when i lived in wales for nearly a year, i understood how the other countries feel over here with the cruel racists amongst us. We don't get along but it is not us its the welsh, The ones who live in the valley, they are racist to the English and i don't care what they say, They are the most rude, ignorant people who i have ever met.

Guess not. Same thing as the Scots. You were called down because you made an honest mistake and called them English. Kind of like lumping the Europeans together and saying the English and the French are the same.

I'm not sure one can call an Irishman a Brit, as that refers to Britain and Britain refers to Great Britain the island and Ireland is another island.

of course they do - but English is not Welsh and Brits are British - which means anyone from England, Scotland, Wales and N Ireland. Some people think Brits is a term for only English people.

I don`t really know why people get so precious over it. We are all getting mixed together somewhere down the line.
There`s over a million Scots living in England, Many thousands of Welsh, many thousands of English living in Scotland and quite a few English living in Wales. The Welsh marry English, Scots marry English, Welsh marry Scots and so on...
One of my Grandfathers was Welsh, it is fairly likely that somewhere down the line i have got a Scottish ancestor. We all live on a small island, we are (so called) civilised and there are more important things to worry about in the world. I`m finding all this independence stuff tiresome.

The Welsh are also "Brits". The UK is so called because it is the united kingdoms of England Scotland and Wales.
It is not a case of us not getting on but a pride of ones background. We British might not appear overtly patriotic yet we have an inherent respect for our cultural heritage.

We welsh are welsh not english we are ompletely different to them linguistically and cultrally the only thing we share in common is currency and monarchy. Wales are jealous cos they are such a small country and are over-powered by the countries around it especially England. so they are proud of the people that are sucessful and they need to cling to that , so it insults them.
but there is nothing to worry about.
basically it is like the canadians and american thing lol.
