Question about Dr. Hook and Jim Croce? |
Doesn't a lot of the music of Dr. Hook and Jim Croce just about hit the Novelty category? I didn't dis either one of them. I love them. They are my inspiration. ya know, I've never thought about it!!! LEEROY BROWN is gunna come round a woop your **** for disrespecting jim. I would not classify either of these great artists as novelty or comedy. While much of their music has a sense of humor, there is usualy a message in there too. While "Cover of the Rolling Stone" may be a parody, many of Hook's songs are very romantic and honest. And if you can't feel the real pain in tunes of Croce's like "Operator", you're not listening close enough. Both were giants of pop. peace man I love Dr. Hook I am a huge fan, I dont know about Jim Croce? I would say Dr. Hook is more like soft rock Well Jim Croce seems more mainstream but I would consider them both Novelty ........ Most of Dr. Hook's songs were written by the humorist Shel Silverstein, so there would be a bit of novelty now and then. But "Sylvia's Mother" gives me chills- what a sad love song. In the times that they were making music the U.S. was caught up in Vietnam. These songs were a good break from the political music of the time. |
