my greatest respect for Metallica, the guys are so good... but the Purple is the epitome of genius. Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan/ Coverdale and John Lord.. what they did for rock music and the fundament they constructed for the other bands ... no doubt about it.

As much as I like Deep Purple, it goes to metallica

Metallica, if they would have stopped making music before the Black Album.

I think Deep Purple kind of almost inspiring some of the rock genres of today, along with Cream and Hendrix, and of course Black Sabbath, but Metallica, is totally different.

Metallica is definitely my choice, all their old stuff. From Kill 'em all to the Black album are the best.

All good songs, heavy, soft, metal. It's metal at it's purest, most defined form, in my opinion. I have to agree that their music today, has lost it's edge a bit, but who hasn't??

Deep Purple for sure. Being an American, I still say British bands have more to talk about and got waaaaaaay more soul than American bands. Deep Purple was filled with nothing but great talent. The greatest thing about Metallica WAS Cliff Burton (February 10, 1962-September 27, 1986).
