More vocal problems? |
I am a 15 year old male. I strained my voice very badly. I pushed and pushed to extremely high notes for over a year, and now i hate myself for it. When i found out that this was bad, i tried to gradually change to a healthier method, but was unsuccessful. I kept realizing that i was worse off than i thought. Try not to sing or talk (and yes I know this is incredibly hard...I did the same thing around your age...i'm a soprano) the hardest thing to do though is not laugh out loud. Gargle (you can do salt, lemon and water or salt, and honey, or lemon and honey), drink tea with honey (honey is very good for your throat), Also if you have to talk, try to whisper. Drink room temperatured water, cold water is bad for your vocal chords. Try it for about a week, and gradually start to use your voice. (baby steps) You don't want to over work your vocal chords again. Also keep in mind that you shouldn't laugh or talk too much before you sing, it tends to stress your voice. I hope this helps. ^.^ Don't sing for about a week( i know how hard that is) And gargle with salt water. Then start with mild warm ups. This is not really the answer you're looking for, but it's one extra little thing: A myme is a good gig. sounds like an injury, you will need to heal before you can be productive. If you can barely speak, you shouldn't try to sing (not even basic things). Don't whisper (this is just about as bad for your voice as yelling is), yell, smoke, be around smokers, or talk (unless it's absolutely necessary). Make sure you're eating a healthy diet and getting enough rest. Since it's been three weeks, I'd recommend going back to the ENT for a follow-up. I assume you're in high school. Ask your choir director. He/she would probably have the best information for you. If he/she was the one who messed you up in the first place, go to the high school director at the next city over and ask them. Don't sing if it hurts, and if it is really bad, it would be a good decision to go on absolute silence for a while. |
