I've been recently getting singing lessons, and my teacher said i'm a soprano but i don't want to be. First of all, what does that even mean?! I also love Evanescence, I know she's an alto (still no idea what that means) but is there any music like that but with a soprano singer? Wow, most girls want to be sopranos.
(But you know the secret... altos rock! They're also highly desirable by colleges with scholarships!)
Anyway, a soprano just means you have a higher range. Since you haven't done singing like this before, let me show you the girl's vocal ranges:
Soprano: Middle C to a high A
Alto: Low F to a high D
It's just kind of a guideline; it doesn't mean you're stuck there forever, or that you're going to hit a middle C and find you can't go lower. It's pretty much where you're most comfortable at and sound best singing. You're probably young, so you'll find that your range is going to change from time to time, and it doesn't quite settle until you're 25 or so.
On a side note: Amy Lee is actually a wonderful example of a good singer. She has an amazing range (she can also hit notes most sopranos never dream of), she uses her diaphragm well(an essential part of singing), she can control her head, throat, and chest voices, and... well, she just has a voice that's pleasant to listen to. A soprano is a higher pitch voice...in which you can hit higher notes.
A alto...is a lower pitch voice.
You need to find out if your a soprano 1 or a soprano 2. Soprano 1 is the highest you can go...such as, Mariah Carey. Soprano 2 is like LeAnn Rimes.
Best Luck First soprano (which I am) Is the highest female voice. i.e. you may be expected to hit top A's etc...
In music you generally sing from around D above middle C to however high you can go (or so I've found out from my singing lessons.)
Second sopranos are slightly lower in pitch then First's, but higher then Altos.
Altos are the lowest female voice. For example Natalie Merchant is a good Alto.
You can still sing Evanescence, just move it up in pitch to suit your voice >.< |
