How can I, being a layman, judge / get an idea of the quality / level of expertise of an indian singer? I reckon that demands me to seek knowledge on indian music.
If this is the case then, just to begin with, can anyone write any newbie slight hints / anything worth notifying during listening to the singer... so that i can get a hint of the goodness of a singer!!

So,our songs are based on Complete Classical Ragas....so,you should observe the diction of the singer{Diction means how well the singer is at classical singing....}
You must be listening to sonu nigam,shaan,K.K....Their strength is classical music...Even the speed-o-ooo of india,"Shankar Mahadevan" is the perfect "Shishya" of a Great Classical "guruji".....
So,you need to listen the changes when a singer sings from lower to higher...that means if the singer's voice changes completely when he/she sings high notes..then the singer is just bluffing you by "Falsetto"...its again a musical term....i wouldn't be able to explain you by writing....{But i acn give you a nice example...."Atif Aslam"...}Thats the only reason why he is not able to perform "Live" whereas you can see shaan striking out his voice in "Voice Of India" if any guest asks him to do so.... judgin 4 a layman is difficult if yu consired da technicalities in it.but yes yu definately can have an opinion of a person bein better than yu!neways jus listen 2 da song.....suppose its a romantic track jus listen it calmly,n if da song is able to remind yu of yr loved 1(if yu have 1)or som singers even have da capacity of makin a chronic bachelor think over his decision!?
its all da way yu listen......if yu want even hariharan can sound a bad singer 2 yu.if yr really interested in music n judgin yu gotta watch this program called - idea star singer on asianet(its a malayalam channel but da competiton is of all langs).if yr genuinely interested yu shud njoy this prog......its @ 8.30 pm ...if u can enjoy the song without hearing any stuff-ups and the sound is good the singer must be doin good...or if the singer is that good u are able to imagine the real singer singing it .. |
