Do singers go into character when they sing on stage?

Or are they just themselves?

Absolutely, especially if the singer is the front person in a band or something. Since we communicate vocally, we take a lot of meaning from what someone鈥檚 voice sounds like 鈥?if they are angry, happy, unsure, sad, mournful, etc. To sing a song is to recreate the mood that the song requires, every time it is sung. That means the singer has to change the character of his or her voice to match the mood of the song. It鈥檚 almost like acting. You have to create the character inside yourself, then deliver it on stage.

no , in films the singers does'nt in the character` ,they sing at backside. now a days the singers goes in the character like himesh reshmiya

I don't know if all of them do, but a good majority do.

I know, from experience, that I act different on stage than when I do in real life. There have also been interviews with artists who have said the same. For example: Maynard James Kenan from TOOL sometimes crossdresses on stage, but in his normal life, he works at a vinery.

Some of them do.

It has been said of Stevie Nicks {of Fleetwood Mac} in the 1970's that when she sang 'Rhiannon', she seemed to embody this character she had created.

Also, Candice Night {of Blackmore's Night} is American, but fans at live shows have commented that she seems to acquire an English accent at times {which is more fitting to the style of songs}. She has said she doesn't knowingly do this.

Other singers have said that 'becoming someone else' on stage helps them deal better with being nervous.

its different for every singer realy they all have their own style!

lots of them put a show on by dancing and some of them act out the song. personally i enjoy it when they sing dance and act out the song it makes you want to see more D:

really i think that most singers do and some don't. like korn, they are always in character and deathlok does not ever go into it.

it depends on the situation and the genre. We opera singers have to be in character when we go on stage, that's what the show is about, isn't it? But it also depends on the person's acting abilities. Just as some stage and screen actors never get deeper than themselves, some singers never take the plunge into the sometimes very gory world of becoming a character. ( the gory part has to do with identifying yourself so strongly with a role that you are caught in it forever. Don't laugh! Lots of actors and singers undergo therapy for this professional risk, just to find themselves again)
There are some very talented people on stage that we would shudder to meet on the street because they are so intense. the ones I like the best are the ones that we'd go right past on the street, never thinking they were one of our stars, simply because they have reverted to their private selves, and have more or less evaporated into the background of real life.
Make-believe and stage work are fine things, but real life is a much better place to live in.

some do some dont
