Singer + tongue piercing = ??

I really want to pierce my tongue.
Only problem is, I'm a singer.
And yes, I'm in a band. Or two. Or more...
I know I won't be able to sing for a few days afterwards, but what about after that?

Please tell me about your experience, if you have one.
And don't tell me not to get one because they look bad.

As a classical singer, I would say, don't do it. We don't really tink aboutwhat the tongue does when we speak, bu t in singing, it takes on an amazingly important part of good sound. when we try and form our vowels to help them to their optimal sound, we need every bit of tongue muscle to cooperate. If some part has been switched off by having a tendon pierced, or even a nerve, your capabilites will become that much more limited.Yes, lisping is also a problem. A microphone will pick that up and amplify it as well.
In the end, of course, it is your decision only, but I would weigh out the prioritites. Good singing as personal statement vs. pierced tongue as personal statement. Which one do you want to have for your lifetime?

Every guy knows , soon as you se a pierced tongue , you got a slutt on your hands .

I have had my tongue pierced for 8 years. I took mine out 2 years ago for office work...anyway, it might affect your singing. You might not be able to hear it, but I have been told by friends that I had a slight lisp when I had mine. Yes, it will hurt there is no way that a piece of surgical steel going through your tongue would not. Good thing is, the tongue is an amazing self healing organ. It heals alot better than some other body piercings (cartilage, genital, etc). At first you won't be able to sing, talk, or eat properly w/o feeling some discomfort and pain. I found the first 4 days or so to be very intolerable. Like I said, your body is an amazing thing, it can adapt to alot of different situations you put it in, lol! My advice to you is this in order to heal quickly you need to follow the instructions and go to a REPUTABLE piercer (cheaper doesn't always equal quality). You will be told to gargle with half distilled water and regular water (if my memory serves me right) after meals -- so do it. You will be told not to smoke -- so don't. I used to be a smoker too and I didn't listen to that last part. I ended up getting "dry socket." You'll have to look that up when you get the chance, but it's a condition in your mouth you don't want, it's painful! Do what you want - if you want to pierce or tattoo just understand that it's YOUR decision and it also will be YOUR fault should you not follow the guidelines that come along with choosing the correct piercer, after care instructions etc. good luck!

PS - to Peter Pan (poster above), women (and men) should be judged on a case by case basis. I'm 26, A VIRGIN (a real one, not the born again kind, etc), and waiting for marriage to have sex. So don't you look/feel dumb making assumptions, lol...

It is not that your voice will be altered as the quality of your voice comes from technique and your facial construction ( because sound resonates in the facial sinus). As a trained professional singer I would never pierce my tongue because it is awful for diction when singing. Every part of your mouth and tongue is used to form words. So NO WAY.
