Singing lessons and anxiety?

It's hard for me to be out in the public. Even when I'm with my friends I seem to shut down and don't say much. It would be extremely hard to just start singing in front of someone. I like my voice, however, I just sing to myself and haven't ever had any real instructions on how to sing, but I would like to learn. I don't know how I could get myself to take that giant step in singing in front of an instructor.

I was the same way. I was really shy and had never had any instruction but I loved to sing. What I did was I just jumped into choir and something I learned was that you shouldn't be shy because you are around amazing people that share the same love of music as you do. Once you're around people that encourage you and offer you help you'll realize it's not bad at all. With time you will become more comfortable in front of people no need to worry. But I highly recommend that if you love to sing you need to get into a choir or vocal club to at least try it and see if you enjoy it. It's worth a try :D
