soprano-high pitch
alto-low pitch

Usually, your speaking voice range is what is most comfortable to sing in. If you have a high voice, you'll be soprano; lower female range is alto. For pop singers, soprano would be like Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch and Kristen Chenowith. Alto range singers include Rihanna, Carly Simon, Ashlee Simpson.

But practice and training can help you extend your natural range into adjoining ranges, in your regular or "chest" voice as well as your "head" or falsetto voice (like what Amy Lynn Lee of Evanescence, an alto, uses to sing the high notes in a song like "Lithium" or Beyonc茅 uses in "Irreplaceable").

correction for Mera: Amy Lee uses her chest voice more often. Falsetto is soft and breathy. You cant get loud with falsetto. Christina Agulera is perfect example of an expanded range and use of chest voice, she's got a soprano high that she belts out like a broadway pro in addition to almost tenor-like lows.

Falsetto, in addition does not count as part of your singing range. if it was, everyone could be a soprano, even a bass like me.

what i would do is go to a pianist or choir person and ask to get your range tested. these kind of questions conerning your range are very hard to answer over the internet bcause each and every voice is different.
