Best singer songwriter ever born?

Best singer songwriter ever born?

Jim Croce - an irresistable talent you only can like!

Steve Malkmus

John Lennon and Paul Mc Cartney !

Tori Amos. Nuff sed.

I'd say Mozart, but I don't know if he sang.

Bob Dylan- His songs have been covered by the Turtles, Peter paul and Mary, The Band, The Byrds,Beach Boys,Black Crowes,Jimi Hendrix,U2 REM,Rolling Stones.

His folk songs inspired the civil rights movement of the early 1960's. His electric folk blues inspired the Byrds and the Beatles.

Bruce Springsteen initially was compared to him.
Plus Cate Blanchett played him in I'm not there, that must count for something.

The poet laureate of England, Andrew Motion, is a vocal supporter of Dylan's work as are musicians Lou Reed, Bono, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, The Go-Betweens, David Bowie, Mike Watt, Roger Waters, Ian Hunter, Paul Simon, David Gilmour, Nick Cave, Keith Richards, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Jack White, Noel Gallagher, Ronnie Wood, Trip Lucid, and Tom Waits

stevie wonder

Tough one, but since I'm listening to Pink Moon just now, I'd say Nick Drake.

David Gilmour - not just when he was with Pink Floyd, but in his solo career also

Paul Simon - wonderful songs like America

Hands Down...The absolute Greatest Singer & Songwriter that ever lived was the immortal Hank Williams, Sr. who wrote & sung many songs including " I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry " , " Your Cheatin' Heart " , etc. which have been re-recorded by such diverse artists as Ray Charles & have sold tens of mullions of copies since Hank's death almost 55 years ago @ the age of 29.

Amanda Palmer and Gerard Way.
Go ahead, push the little thumbs down now...

In my opinion its gotta be Jeff Buckley who was an absolute genius!!!!!!!!!

It would be almost imposible to name a best songwriter because there are so many fantastic songwriters in all catagories of music. I can only say my favorites of all times have to be lennon and mccartney and pete townsend land Justin Hayward. then there is Rogers and Hammerstein who wrote songs for the classic musicals which I love and Peter Simon James Taylor and Carol King Wow I could name a million and of course the legendary lCole Porter I could go on and on with this list love tia
