any tips to get high notes,
any good songs around that level? not something too high pitched, or low, just right and able to stretch the notes...i'm only 14 If this is for a talent show, I'd recommend something upbeat and/or something from a musical. Unless you're in the first 3 performers - esp. at a school performance - long or serious songs will have the audience shifting in their seats.
If you haven't sung a lot and toned your voice, I'd stay away from songs with very high or sustained notes. Chances are your voice may quit before you do esp if you're the least bit nervous. And an excellent song in a range that works for your voice is much more impressive and less painful to watch than something that is too ambitious. The audience will feel your pain.
If high notes are your only problem, strengthen your diaphragm by lying down and putting a book on your stomach. Every day for a couple of weeks for several minutes, practice pushing the book up as you take in a breath. When you sing, take in a deep breath on the passage building up to the high note and push out more air on it. Not enough air is the usual problem for voice breaking on these.
Leading up to the performance, practice every day. If you don't do scales to warm-up, at least sing a couple of songs that are easy for you (in your range) before you do a couple that stretch your range a little, and then do your performance piece at least 3 times. Practicing daily will not only strengthen your voice but your confidence because you will feel totally prepared when it's time to perform.
Before you perform or even practice, do NOT have sugar, caffeine or cold drinks (go for something warm like hot water or tea instead). These will clog your throat (sugar and milk products), affect your timing (caffeine and sugar) or tighten your throat (cold drinks). Have all you want after you turn in your amazing performance!!!
