I got a quick question about singing, how can i sing in a tenor voice? like can someone tell me the steps on how (please dont say go to a teacher), but is there a natural way in teaching yourself? daily practices?
im 15, havent finished puberty yet, both my parents are exellent singers and sing for a company...
and... is it possible for everyone to sing tenor? peter,
if it were possible for anyone to sing tenor, they all would.
No, it's not that easy. Your eventual voice category will come with your physical maturity, and there's no way to help it go any faster.
How well do you get on with your dad? You could ask him about if he remembers his voice change, how he got through things. check with other male members of your family ( the grown-up ones, that is) to see if they remember.
Take a tally- how many basses, how many baritones, how many tenors. This might give you a ball-park idea of where you could end up.
As a singing teacher, I know how important it is for young singers to have an identity to work with, but sometimes getting plastered with a label in one's teens is far too early. there's so much maturing left to be done, and not only on the physical level. sometimes it'll be fairly obvious, like if you drop two octaves and don't resurface. but most young men tend to stay in a rather catch-all phase of light baritone for another couple of years.
since you are not out of your own growth spurt yet, I wouldn't want to advise specific exercises. I will, however strongly recommend that you start up by learning all you can about proper breath support ( and this might entail getting lessons). If you think you can afford the price, buy Richard Miller's excellent book : Training Tenor Voices.
it's pricey, maybe you'll want to loan it from the library instead. He will answer most of your questions on being a tenor far better than anyone in this forum.
Best wishes to you and keep on singing |
