SONG to SiNg?? URGENT!?

Hi. I am singing in competition this year, and I have a performance coming up. Any suggestions? I am an alto, have won 4 singing competitions, and have a Broadway voice. Some of my good songs are Popular, Don't Cry Out Loud, Only Hope, and Defying Gravity. Please answer nicely. And no, I'm not bragging! Just giving you some background info. Thansk for the help!

I suggest:

Nothing- A Chorus Line
Music and the Mirror- A Chorus Line
Good Morning, Baltimore- Hairspray
On My Own- Les Miserables
Astonishing- Little Women
Everything's Coming Up Roses- Gypsy
Acid Queen- Tommy
I Cain't Say No- Oklahoma
Adelaide's Lament- Guys & Dolls
Hopelessly Devoted to You- Grease
Without You- Rent

These songs are mainly for altos, and since you have a Broadway voice, these voice should really bring out your voice and your range.
They're all REALLY nice, and one that I suggest you use if you ABSOLUTELY want to impress the judges of the competition you'll be in is Music and the Mirror. It's a alto/mezzo-soprano, but you could always transpose and it shows off your vocals SOO well if you can sing it well.
If you have any more comments or questions, please feel free to email me.

"Dont Cry For Me Argentina" from Evita. I love that song, and it has emotion, power, and soft notes. Or any Bette Midler songs.

If you'd like to show off your diction skills, try singing Basia's " Copernicus" from her London Warsaw New York CD. She does many love tunes as well and does great Bassa NOva. Check out her song bio on the web. She's one of the best female singers you've likely never heard of. Polish girl with British Accent when interviewed. Her 3 CD's came out in the late 80's and early 90's. www.basiaweb.com

Check out some of Diana Krall's old torch tunes and see if you like them. "Maybe You'll Be There", for the melancholy, and then more up tempo stuff, " 'Deed I Do" or "I Love Being Here With You"

Good luck with you're singing career

I like the song "Journey to the Past" from the 20th Century Fox movie "Anastasia" with Meg Ryan and John Cusack!!

It was sung by Liz Callaway, a Broadway star, so you might sound as good as she does, because she probably has the same alto range as you.

I'm an alto too, my favorite song to sing EVER is "I'm beginning to see the light" Ella Fitzgerald sang it and it sounded amazing.

Sorry can't help, I don't know a thing about singing or what song is best for you. Wish i could help but can't SORRY!!!

sing what you feel like
you can sing Vanessa Carlton songs since they have lots of emotion to it, breathe, or some catchy kind of song or you can redo some songs like Imogen heap did for some songs, you can redo The Great Escape!
it all depends what you feel like. i mean, i sing what's stuck in my tiny head and it mostly likely represents what i feel. so go with how you feel!

Popular or Dont Cry out loud
i did that too in a competition
i did popular and dont cry
everyone likes it alot
