Does a singers physical appearance affect your view on them?

I've been writing my own songs and singing since I was 13 (I'm 17 now) but I've been too scared to actually play a show because I'm afraid people wont accept me, or take me seriously because of my physical appearance. Let's just say I've 'got some meat on my bones' lol I have lost some weight but I guess from being on the larger side my whole life I'm afraid once I get on stage people will only focus on my weight and not my singing or guitar playing. I wish I had some music recorded so you could give me a better answer but I'll just post a picture so you can post your own opinion and tell me how you would react or how you usually react to plus sized lady singers lol. once again I know it would greatly aid in your answer if I had music but please work with me :D

There's nothing wrong with the way you look. I wouldn't even call you "plus-sized", certainly not compared to Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, Ann Wilson, and many other plus-sized singers who have been extremely successful.

Unfortunately some folks just look at the 'cover' your physical appearance and dont consider the 'contents' your voice.......if you have the talent hon, go with your heart!! and best of luck!!!!

i don't think it really matters what you look like (unless that's what people only care about which they don't) because it's the music you hear that's what matters so as long as you play/sing music well it's all good :-)

First of all....you are very pretty and you don't look big at all. Just as long as you're not one of those people who say they're gonna win on American Idol and get on stage and sing horribly.......like as long as you sing good and grab the audience's attention they won't be mean. You have to have that confidence in yourself before you can get up on stage though. If you think bad about appearance, you're not gonna do good. You have to be positive and know you're gonna rock it girl! Good Luck.....Luv the tat!

if you're talented get it out there and lose the glasses show those pearly whites, you have a beautiful face! i am not a fan of tattoos but i am an old f--t what do i know? anyway, ever hear of MAMA CASS, WILLIE NELSON,JOHNNY CASH, TINA TURNER, and too many more to mention? they aren't exactly beauty contest material.

Honey find your own style and sing with your soul! You might start out singing in coffee shops with a hippie element.They are more accepting of diffrent sizes.I dont think you fat just pretty curvy.Kids are stupid though.Sing with your soul.

There is nothing wrong with you, just go for it i personally don't mind how singers look at all, just be confident.
