Well, nightwish is an awesome band, but without tarja just isn't the same, but anette is pretty good too. Who do you think sings better, tarja or anette? Well it depends on what got you to like the band to begin with; what solidified your status as a fan. Was it Tarja's voice? Was it the technical aspect like guitar skills or the music itself? Was it the genre or the style? Was it the lyrics? If you loved the band because of Tarja's voice alone then it's going to be difficult to love Nightwish now that she's out. Otherwise, the same elements are still there: the genre the band locates itself in, the great talent of the remaining musicians, the music they produce together, and of course Tuomas' awesome lyrics.
I guess that kind of thinking made me accept the new vocalist, though like many others I'm still pining for what was lost. I do believe that Tarja's voice brought a certain feel to Nightwish that Anette just hasn't lately. The first time I heard Tarja's voice I got goosebumps and the experience was almost mystical. Listening to tracks like Nemo, Wish I Had An Angel, or Over The Hills And Far Away is a totally different experience from listening to the new tracks like Amaranth or Eva--though Amaranth I particularly love. It's just that the first time I heard Anette, her voice just sounded so...Pop to me. Not that Pop's bad, it's just different from what I associated with Nightwish.
Then again, they've just begun as a new band. Tarja had almost a decade with the band, so I suppose it's fair that we give Anette as much time to prove she can live up to her predecessor. I'm still deciding--aren't we all? Really hard to say. When i first heard Anette i wasn't right impressed. But i think that was because i thought no one could compare to Tarja. Then i got the new album and i can't stop listening to it. It is awesome.
To be honest, i don't think you can really compare them because their singing style is so different.
I love old and new Nightwish.
When i listen to new stuff, i don't think that Tarja could do it better, and when i listen to old stuff i don't think that Nightwish with Anette is awful.
So i say that with either singer Nightwish is still awesome. Tarja wins hands down -Anette's voice sounds far too "average" for my ears!! I have stopped listening NW completely after Tarja was kicked out!!! |
