What's the best way to start a band?

I was in a band about three years ago and I love singing more than anything else...besides animals and music of course. I am a singer/songwriter, and I'm wanting to try and get with a group so I can start doing what I love again and maybe eventually get signed. I would be more into rock than anything else, but maybe mixed with a few other sounds would be okay- like techno rock, metal rock, classic rock, whatever. Does anyone have any ideas? And no Craigslist just does not seem to work!

If you live in Brisbane check out RAVE magazine. Its free and you can grab a copy from any music shop. The section called 'Billboard' contains hundreds of ads for Rock musicians, vocalists and any instruments. Its free to run a two week ad and you can also access their web site to place an ad on line. Good luck.

I have tried like three times to start a band and it is not easy. But it also helps if you live in an area where there are lots of available people--there are only like 250 people in my high school. Anyway but you need people that actually want to play. not just the amazing people. cuz if they arent really committed then they will just quit. oh yeah and just start playing with other people who know what they are doing...the rest will come from there.

Get a few of your close friends that know how to play various instruments and also who like your style of music and have a jam session somewhere. If you feel you're good, start something.

try myspace

Not sure where you live, but if your area has open jams, go to as many as you can... You will meet all kinds of musicians who are probably looking for others to play with....
