What will happen to the television shows during and after the writer's guild strike?

It looks like a lot of tv shows will cease to play after the episodes which have already been written are used. What will people then watch? What is the fate of current airing tv shows? (ie. will they survive?, and if so will their current season be completed?) Can't producers get more writers? last time i checked there wasn't a shortage of people who write. please explain to me the details of this strike and it impact on the television network.

Since you posted this question in soaps I will include this article relating to soap writers. Talk shows are already in re-runs and prime-time shows will be next to follow. Daytime soaps seem to be all set until the start of the year and I don't know what they will do after that. Anyone remember what they did the last time there was a strike? Play montage episodes? Re-run major stories from past years?
Hopefully, they won't have to worry about it.

Most prime time shows will stop. However, soaps will use non-union writers to do their episodes
