Why are soaps so popular?

why are soaps like Eastenders,hollyoaks,emmerdale etc so intrestings what makes it intresting?

well actually its not for people with no lives!! i think its because they leave you in suspense, and some good things happen like deaths, affairs, and fights. i love it!!! xx

because people like being "involved" without being "involved" in the drama of other peoples lives

Their delightfully clean scents of coure!

it is watched by those who have no perception of what quality drama is.

I think they're interesting because they give people the feeling they're spying on other people's lives and the plots are conceived so that you feel like you're watching real people and you can see even beyond the surface (something you can't do in real life).

The provide total escape for me. I don't know why this is exactly but for the thirty minutes they are on, I can watch without thinking of something else. For those people that imply they are for brain donors, I have a higher degree and a lot of common sense.

Because there's so many saddos with no lives of their own who think that it's real.

Its an escape from reality...whatever is going on in your life cant be as bad as soap land. (unless of course you've killed someone, had an affair with your father in law or been kept hostage by your deranged step son who then went on to shoot your missus preventing her from having kids of her own!)

a. they're entertaining - it's not shakespeare but it's still fun
b. they never have reruns (at least the US ones don't)
c. if you miss a week or so you don't miss a lot because they move so slowly
d. you can have them on to listen to while you do housework

no one thinks they're real. come on.

Why are some people hooked on sports?
Why do some people enjoy reality shows? Or CNN?
It is entertaining and an escape from the reality of life, whether that person's life is boring, stressful, or simply centered around a 3 year old. So maybe we occasionally complain, yell and throw things at our TV when we don't like something that happens - but I still don't see that as any different than being a sports fan.

Soaps, just like any other shows, are an escape from reality. I sit down everyday from 2-4pm and watch my soaps. During those 2 hours I can relax, forget about everything and enjoy watching the drama unfold.

i don't know. i actually don't like those types. i prefer the traditional american soaps like gh.

The reason why soaps are so popular is because they evoke scenes that portrait life and the actors in these soups are non like other actors, I call them the best of all best. We often watch these film because it as so much meaning to us and also to people that we know. Its kind of sad that some of these soaps are beginning to seem very unbelievable. But the one that i think is the most interesting is Y&R but people have there best.

I dont think they are real ,but I think the Actors are brilliant in the soaps they work hard most days of the week to bring Pleasure to trillians of People ,I have always found that most men wont admit to watching them but they do,They appeal to people of all ages with similar Problems to the people in the soaps,,You have your Dot Cottons and Ritas for the old ones ,Your 30 40s ,Young Marrieds Young people dating and even School Kids for the young ones ,And they bring up Important issues and Problems that people identify with ,They do go over the top at times ,but that makes it more exciting ,and makes us watch every day to see what happens

Somet to watch on a night instead of spending time with the kids watch T.v

People need an escape from their real lives. It's like any other TV show or good movie that you get into - makes you forget your own troubles for an hr.

it so intersting seeing other people suffer in soaps and thinking that could be me one day

Cause we like to see people suffereing more than we all are in our everyday lives.........(or is that just me?!)

the story line i v been watchind days of our lives for a long time its so good.

I REALLY don't know! I hate them. They're so unrealistic and pathetic.

Soaps are entertaining. They are fun to watch. Guiding Light is the best soap opera on television.

They are made for people with no real lives of their own - they think this is what it is like in real life.
