Why do people ask a question but not want to hear an honest answer?

i answer peoples questions with truthful response sometimes it may be brutally honest and not what other people want to read/hear.
is that any reason to give my response a thumbs down...if they dont want the truth why do they ask the question

People want to get answers from people who only agree with them. Else you get a thumbs down and certainly not a Best Answer. My question is, then.....why bother asking?

I see this all the time, and wonder myself....

sometimes it hurts to hear the truth.

because they know the truth..and they want people to feel sorry for them

most for validiation..

i don;t know. some people ask questions and are looking for a specific answer to make them feel better about themselves...

They don't want you to either hurt their feelings by the truth or don't want to hear about it. That's what I think.

they only like what they want to hear. It's stupid, but true. They are looking for only one answer and when you don't have it, they hate you

If your being truthful in your response who cares what they think.

maybe someone else gave it a thumbs down because of something petty. they disagree, or are just a jerk or whatever

How do you know the person asking the question gave you the thumbs down? More than likely, it was an anonymous passerby.

Some people who are not open minded will only accept what they want to hear as an answer. They are stubborn is all.

they dont want to feel rejected

They want to try and believe in something that isn't real. They think that by hearing it from someone else then they can leave this reality and live in lalaland for a bit

ignorance is bliss and maybe they are much happier than the rest of us, but we are much smarter.

Its not the asker who's giving you those thumbs downs. Its other people who are answering who think their answer is the best one.

because sometimes people are weird, they arent all like us smart people. We have to stand up for whats right and STAND FOR OUR RIGHTS!!!! FIGHT TILL THE DEATH!

You don't no where the thumbs down are coming from. It could be from another person who is answering the same question. Maybe they feel offended the way you are answering the questions. Just keep on answering your questions like you have and ignore the thumbs down.

I agree. You see this a LOT in the politically-loaded questions. If the question is trashing "the Dems", any answer posted in support or otherwise throwing insult back towards Repubs...will get about 20 thumbs down.

It's self preservation, self justification, and simply wanting to believe that "you're right".

Maybe it's not the truth that bothers people maybe it's the sarcasm that comes with it, ya know?

i do expect the truth, and i have asked many questions that have gotten bruetle answers, like oen time on ushi no tane, i asked if the people on the site would take a look at my story, one person told me that jack(sparrow from the pirates of the caribbean) would never get with elizebeth(swann from the pirates of the caribbean) you know like in the movies, i did tell them to look at all of the story's with the tag sparrowbeth, and jackabeth, but thats becouse it is a story, but i didnt rly expect that answer, but one person said to work on my grammer and spelling (I have horrable grammer and spelling) and stuff like that, and i was greatful becouse then i can make my other stories better, and go back and edit that one.

I wonder about that all the time its also crazy how people give you a thumbs down for your opinion.

I think they are hoping t hear something they are already thinking, like validation for what they are feeling/wanting and you telling them what they need to hear, but may not want to erks them.

because they want you to conform how they feel even if it isn't "right".Some people can't take a joke and take Y&A too serious

To be successful, you need to figure out what people want to hear, and tell them that.
