John Black?

Just wondering - Why did the actor who played John Black (Drake ?) leave the show?

Hogan Sheffer, the head writer, has made no secret that he disliked the character of John Black and wrote very little material for the character. He was shot last December, spent five months in a coma, then had minimal scenes with Stephano (which was a travesty since much of the Dimera storyline was very much involved with John) and we pretty much only saw him when he was playing suck-face with Marlena. Really, I think they wanted us to dislike him, too - well, I didn't like those scenes but I still loved John. They killed John when Drake's contract wasn't even up until Dec 12. Drake had complained publicly about his lack of storyline and another rumor involves the producer's rule that 'if you out, you're out.' That has been denied by Ed Scott.
If you are a Drake fan, I wouldn't worry. The rumors are strong that he will be back either as John who didn't really die or as a look-alike character. We can only hope.

He had NO choice-the writers completely made a bad decision and wrote him off. I think there is so much of a fan base and protest for him that they are trying to get him back. Don't quote me though , but I'm sure that is what is going on.

Let's just say that the powers that be screwed-up BIG TIME !!! Now, let me throw this out there, WHO is in Stefano's basement being "worked on" by Dr. Raulff ? Could John be coming back as a DiMera's evil doer ? Just something Day's would do !!!

he's rumored to be returning next month(several web spoiler sites have reported seeing him film on the set)

while i agree that hogan sheffer didnt like him(he only seems to like kayla and sami) alot of the veterans disappearing or doing nothing more than sitting around is forced onto the writers by the producers not wanting to pay the veterans because lower than average ratings arent bringing in the money to pay them
its a no win situation for the fans they dont want to pay the people capable of making them money so we are stuck with a max/stefanie story instead of a john marlena stefano story

omg cause they couldn;t afford to pay him so they killed him off ,, marela is next to go they were they two top paying stars of the show,,

I read an article with him in Soap Opera Digest a few months ago where he talks about his contract coming to an end and with how little the writers were doing with his character he felt that John Black wasn't really going to "go anywhere"....so it sounded like he decided not to renew his contract....
Now there are rumors that he may be back at the beginning of the year

I hope he is really off the show, he was a horrible actor. I can't believe he was on this long. He has a good part for the story, but they could find someone to play it who can act. The guy who played John Black should win the award for worst soap actor ever.
